Natural Remedies That Combat Cellulite
Many women suffer from this pesky little thing called cellulite. Skin appears "wavy" and "dimples" become visible. Discipline and endurance are required to combat cellulite.
Cellulite is mainly formed on the thighs, buttocks and upper arms. Several factors play a role in the formation of cellulite such as the structure of connective tissue in women. Connective tissue in women has a parallel structure, whereas men have a net-like structure, making it more stable. This explains why men seldom suffer from cellulite.
In addition, women have twice as many fat cells compared to men. These can be filled and press together by the weak connective tissue, making them visible ("dents" or "dimples").
A poor diet and lack of exercise can also attribute to the formation of cellulite. However, cellulite can also be due to hormones or heredity factors.
How to combat Cellulite
There are two main approaches to fighting cellulite: prevention or combating existing cellulite.
Massages: A good massage on the affected areas can stimulate circulation of the connective tissue thereby promoting the metabolism which may lead to a decrease in cellulite.
Creams: Natural and organic anti-cellulite creams are another option. These creams are most effective when used in combination with other treatments.
Alternating between hot and cold showers: The body's circulation is stimulated when alternating the temperature of the water during a shower. This reduces and/or prevents fluid accumulation. Note: always end with a cold splash of water.
Lymphatic drainage may also help fight the appearance of cellulite.
Use leftover coffee grounds to gently massage the affected areas twice a week for ten minutes. Rinse away thereafter.
Potatoes: Yes, potatoes can come in very handy when treating cellulite. Cut the potato into thin slices, place the slices on the affected areas and wrap in a cotton towel. Let the potatoes do their magic for 15 minutes. This will stimulate circulation.
Parsley: Chop the parsley, place in hot water and let it brew for five minutes. Drink the brew daily for two weeks. Do not exceed the two week time period. Parsley can aid in freeing the body of any fluid accumulation.
Prevention
Water: A basic requirement for firm skin is sufficient fluid intake. Drink at least 2-3 litres of liquids per day. It is advised to stick to tap water and unsweetened tea.
Diet: Refrain from consuming a large amount of sugar, salt, fat and alcohol. All of these things promote fat and water retention within the skin, which in turns forms cellulite. An alkaline diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains is the more suitable option. An adequate supply of vitamin C and potassium helps to combat cellulite.
Sport: movement and cellulite do not mix. Incorporate both cardio and strength training into your fitness routine. Swimming, running and cycling strengthen the muscles of the most commonly affected body parts.
It is most effective to combine various activities and measures in combating or preventing cellulite.
